Jagatram Niwas is a family-run guesthouse situated in the small, rural village of Heini, in the foothills of the Himalayan Dhauladhar range, Himachal Pradesh.
There is one bookable two-room family suite on the second floor of our niwas, with one private attached bathroom and use of shared guest kitchen.
Please note that the guesthouse is off-road, so guests should be prepared to do quite a lot of walking.
The guesthouse offers peace and quiet, beautiful natural surroundings and clean, stylishly decorated, affordable rooms. It is also an ideal base for local sightseeing and activities (courses in the area range from yoga to silversmithing), day excursions further afield, and trekking in the Dhauladhars (the trail begins outside our back gate).
Heini itself is home to diverse flora and fauna. Of special note are the pine forests, the kites which regularly swoop past our terrace, and the rhododendron trees which bloom in the spring.
The village fields are farmed organically, with a yearly rotation of mustard, barley, maize and courgette, as well as potato, onion and garlic.
To reach the guesthouse from Mcleodganj, you can take the 15-minute taxi ride up the tarmac road to Dharamkot and along the road to Heini, followed by a ten-minute walk through the village and its fields.
To get back down, you can make the 25-minute walk to Bhagsunag, down steep concrete steps and a jeep road, followed by a five-minute autorickshaw ride. You can return to the guest house via the same route, but it is steep.
Whether you stay for a week or a month, we'll provide a warm welcome, a comfortable stay, and tailor-made treks and excursions ideally suited to the independent traveller.
